[groan] sweet [groan]

On the road again, now I'm back in the original stomping grounds of 2/3 of the speak™ family - the C-H-I! I rarely come home to visit, mainly because I'm too cheap to pay a $30 cover charge to get in the club, I'm not a bar guy (unless Zero K is in the vicinity) and having my mama trying to set me a curfew is just not cool. I'm a grown ass man, dawg... I pays my own bills and wipes my own ass... now what you know about that?!! With that being said, I try to squeeze a month's worth of activities into a few days time (there are many people skipped during this process - don't take it personal). I have to hang out with the fam, play with the munchkin crew (my nieces and nephews) and catch a free meal or two. I also have to see Mr. H and find out what new beat he's created in his studio... and find my way to Harold’s on 87th St. to pick up a pizza puff with mild sauce (for you non-Chicagoans, Harold’s Chicken Shack is undeniably the one reason that there are obese Black people in the Windy City at all). To make a long story short, I make the most of my time.

Unfortunately, when I’m home and some people are unavailable, bad things happen. I generally spend too much time on my cell phone, calling and text-messaging people for long chats about nothingness. Hey, I’m bored out of my freakin’ mind, what do you expect? In the past, I’d cut my losses and go visit the friend I know truly cares about me, the trusty computer. But alas, my mama cut off my connection to the Information Super Highway and left me to fend for myself in the darkness. I dare not try watching TV. Why you might ask? Well, for starters, I truly believe my family is one of the few left in the world that does not have cable. No, we are not Amish. These people subject me to grainy pictures of local news, Wheel of Fortune and PBS marathons of BBC television… but thankfully, the biggest movie collection in the greater 48 states is located in my household. To combat boredom, I need to compile a list of movies to watch so that I’m not brain-dead by the end of the weekend.

Right now I have:

Friday - “The f*** you stealing boxes for? What you trying to build, a clubhouse?!"

Boomerang - Damn, I wanted to be Marcus Graham! {DISCLAIMER.... except when he got with Lady Eloise...}

love jones - "I’m the blues in your left thigh, tryna become the funk in your right…"

Old School - "Blue, you're my boy!"

Wedding Crashers - "Tattoo on the lower back? Might as well be a bull’s-eye."

Jason's Lyric - Jada. Nekkid. Enough Said.

Menace II Society - "Look at m****f***** wheelz..."

Scarface - "Say hello to my lil' friend..."

The Usual Suspects - "The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist."

Coming to America – There are so many parts in the movie that I bust up laughing at; it’s ridiculous.

Help me out, please… I need some submissions that are guaranteed to combat boredom. Needless to say, it’s my sanity at sake here. It’s either watching movies or the 82nd edition of the [insert random daytime talk-show] Datz Not My Baby Momma. Man cannot live on Maury alone…

That’s it for me until Tuesday... don't make me end up like this.

  8. Ahhhhh, how I wish I was at home right now. George, go to Hollywood Cinema in Woodridge. They serve alcohol food and have recliners (not your atypical theater, indeed). Check out "The Inside Man" or "V For Vendetta." On the rental/DVD tip don't forget "School Daze", "Kill Bill Vols. I and II", "Heat", "High Tension", "Memento", and "She Hate Me" (ya'll slept on this SPIKE LEE JOINT)!

For nite life...Go to Bar Louie in Hyde Park or the one off Harrison, Club Absinthe, Funky Buddha Lounge, or one of the hole in the walls on the Souf (yes I said SOUF!) Side. Just some ideas.

  9. Much obliged, sister VSolo and brother Rory...

I think I am in a more comedic mood - but I think I'll have to hit up the theater with the liquor for the full-bodied viewing experience... you know we smuggle stuff into the show anyway... LOL!

  10. Better late than never.

Most of the other good comedies have been named, but how about watching "Half-Baked", Chris Rock's comedy specials, Season II of Chappelle's Show, Family Guy, or Me Myself and Irene.

And, if they don't make you laugh, drink Tequila shots until they do...lol

  12. PHS - definitely feeling you on the Half-Baked...

    I wanna talk to Samson!

Everybody else... send your top 5 movie picks of all time... the ones you'll watch over and over and over...

  13. I'm not saying that these are the best movies ever made or anything like that. These are just movies that I feel that I can watch over and over again and still get excited, happy, sad, etc. over: Love Jones, Dirty Dancing, Purple Rain, My Best Friend's Wedding, and The Matrix.... Matter of fact, The Matrix was on TBS last night, and when Trinity bounces off that building towards the end of the movie, it still cracks me up :P Oh yeah, and Pulp Fiction. Samuel L's and John Travolta's dialogue is Hi-lari-ous!!!

  14. Well my mamma ain't got cable at her house either, that's why i'm at my sister's. By the way everyone wish my beautiful niece Jenna Olivia a HAPPY 1st BIRTHDAY. She is the most beautifulist girl in the world. And I would have to say 40 Year Old Virgin, very hilarious. And since your in the crib I know you can cop a bootlegg copy of ATL. Get on that while your at Harold's, so you can burn my @$$ a copy, HOLLA!!!

  15. Happy First Birthday, Jenna Olivia!!!

It's impossible for me to narrow down my favorites to 5...maybe I could give you 5 in each genre, but that would take forever. I would have to say, my "top 5" movies are Coming to America, The Matrix, Lethal Weapon movies, Mr. and Mrs. Smith was pretty funny, and maybe The Wood. Mind you, my "top 5" might change if you asked this same question an hour from now.

I don't know if I made any typos...I don't feel like proof reading. Forgive my diction....don't drink and blog...lol

  16. Has anybody gone to the movies lately? Thinking about going to see ATL, Block Party, Inside Job or 16 Blocks.... any reviews are welcome...

just don't give away the plot!

  17. Inside Man is great! Spike Lee is BACK!

16 Blocks is good. Well acted and interesting plot.

  18. I agree with Pimp Hand about both movies. If I had to choose one movie out of the four to see on the big screen and save the others for later, I'd choose Inside Man.
